The classic oldy that always helps me lighten up is God's statement that we don't need to be fearful and anxious. If we completely surrender to His will, we live in collaboration with Him and need no wear and tear. Those who believe in God's guidance just do the best they can and never worry. Still, I find myself undertaking tasks and challenges independent of God, relying on my limited capacity and feeling my stress-level rise. It's at times like those that the words "let go and let God" come back to me and set me back on course.

Cannot top Clever Deb on my response - but thanks for writing this. It is beautifully written and so true. Formulas and checklists are always so much easier than Trusting God.

Theodore Roosevelt said "Do what you can with what you have where you are." Add "and leave the rest to God" to that quote and we have a pretty reliable formula for being at peace with the efforts we make. I often think there's nothing I can do to be helpful in certain situations. Then I realize that if I can do only one small thing, I should do that one small thing. Which brings me back to the concept of effort. Scott Peck defined love as "The will to extend one's self for the purpose of nuturing one's own or another's spiritual growth." This idea that love is effortful puts things in perspective for me. It pairs well with the concept of helping to "prepare the way" when I can't be the sole catalyst for change.

Death is the absence of life.In our natural self, we fear it, and try to avoid thinking about it.In Christ, there is no death. There is however much pain in separation. This is part of our human experience.Jesus went through human grief(Lazarus)for us.And because of His death and resurrection,we have nothing to fear when it's time to leave our earthly bodies.

If a man is spiritually miles ahead of us, we may say that he is in a special sense a man of God, though we are all children of God. I know that my journey of faith is different from any one else's. I rejoice to walk it. I weep when I slip. God's word is "He who strives never perishes." I have absolute faith in that promise and faith in those I meet along the way who bear witness to their relationsip with Him as we all converge on that ultimate destination.
