Isaac’s wife, Rebekah, was pregnant with twins. The two babies fought with each other even while they were in the womb. Scripture tells us this: “Rebekah said, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ So she went to inquire of the Lord.”
When life presents difficult situations, there are many places to go for insights. Deep friendships are invaluable. Even
books and articles can provide help. At the same time, I mustn’t forget that the source of all truth – including answers to my questions – is God. In fact, that’s exactly where my brothers and sisters in the faith ultimately point me.
The Bible passage says that Isaac’s wife received a response from the Lord, and quite promptly at that. My experience and observation indicate that it doesn’t always happen this way, but that God is sometimes silent for far longer than I’d like. His love and consoling, expressed directly and through others, fill the gap.
When it comes to questions, I might not always get an immediate answer, but at least I know who to ask.
